چکیده

Video sequences capturing real scenes may be interpreted with respect to a dominant plane which is a planar surface covering ‘a majority’ of pixels in an image of a video sequence, i.e. that planar surface which is represented in the image by a maximum number of pixels. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for the detection of dominant planes from optical flow fields caused by camera motion in a static scene. We, in particular, intend to adopt this algorithm as a module for obstacle detection in vision-based navigation of autonomous robots. 1 Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology 2 Media Technology Division, IMIT, Chiba University 3 Software Research Division, National Institute of Informatics 4 Center for Image Technology and Robotics Tamaki Campus, The University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand. Free Space Detection from Catadioptric Omnidirectional Images for Visual Navigation using Optical Flow

In this paper, we develop a free space detection algorithm for the visual navigation of the autonomous robot mounting a catadioptiric omnidirectional imaging system. The algorithm detects the dominant plane as the free space from a sequence of omnidirectional images captured by a camera mounted on the autonomous robot. The dominant plane, which can be detected from the optical-flow field, is th...

Dominant Plane Detection Using Optical Flow and Independent Component Analysis

Dominant plane is an area which occupies the largest domain in an image. A dominant plane detection is an essential task for an autonomous navigation of mobile robots equipped with a vision system, since we assume that robots move on the dominant plane. In this paper, we develop an algorithm for the dominant plane detection using optical flow and Independent Component Analysis. Since the optica...

Optical Flow Templates for Superpixel Labeling in Autonomous Robot Navigation

Instantaneous image motion in a camera on-board a mobile robot contains rich information about the structure of the environment. We present a new framework, optical flow templates, for capturing this information and an experimental proof-of-concept that labels superpixels using them. Optical flow templates encode the possible optical flow fields due to egomotion for a specific environment shape...

Using Optical Flow Fields for Polyp Detection in Virtual Colonoscopy

Since the introduction of Computed Tomographic Colonography (CTC), research has mainly focused on visualization and navigation techniques. Recently, efforts have shifted towards computer aided detection (CAD) of polyps. We propose a new approach to CAD in CT images that attempts to model the way a radiologist recognizes a polyp using optical flow fields (OFF). Features extracted from OFFs are u...

Comparison between single and double flow plane solar heaters considering gas radiation effect

ABSTRACT: In this paper, the thermal characteristics of single and double flow plane solar heaters with radiating working gas were analyzed and compared by numerical analysis for the first time. The laminar mixed convection gas flow in the heaters was numerically simulated by the CFD method using the finite volume technique. The set of governing equations included the conservation of mass, mome...
